The first written record of the Orava Castle goes to the 13th century. It ranks among the most significant monuments of castle architecture and belongs to one of the most frequently visited monuments in Slovakia. The Orava Castle towers 112 metres over the sea level while the village of Oravsky Podzamok is dominated magnificently by it.

The establishment of the Orava Gallery in Dolny Kubin in 1965 was made possible by the vigorous creative culture of the Orava region; by the amalgam of professional artistic activity and folk art expression. The administrative headquarters of the Orava Gallery is the County Hall, erected at the end of the 17th century and located in Dolny Kubin. The gallery's collections are divided into eight scenic discipline.

At Podbiel, traditional buildings in the courtyards typical of central Orava have been preserved in almost their original condition. This was declared a Reserve of Folk Architecture. You can spend a long time simply admiring the harmony achieved between practicality and aesthetic design. The majority of the buildings are not permanently inhabited but some of them serve recreational purposes. Podbiel is located in the ethnographically typical region of Orava.
